Horse Rescued After 8 Hours Stuck In Snow In North Stonington

Firefighters rescued a horse that was downed in the snow Thursday.

NORTH STONINGTON, CT — Crews rescued a horse that was unable to get to its feet and was stuck in the snow for about eight hours Thursday.

The North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to assist the town's animal control officer at 1 p.m. to assist with a horse that had been down since about 6 a.m. The horse was at the bottom of a hill and was unable to get to its feet.

Firefighters and the animal control officer made several attempts to assist the horse but initial attempts were unsuccessful. A specialized horse rescue team and an ambulance were requested to stand by.

At about 2 p.m., crews efforts were successful and the horse was safely brought to its feet and guided back into the barn.

The horse rescue team was canceled, and crews left the scene shortly thereafter.
