How to pick a Builder?

You have made the decision that you want to build a home.  What do you do then?  Where do you go to find the perfect builder?  What is involved?

When picking a builder, you need to select a few different ones and ask them the same questions:

·          How many homes did you build last year?

·         How many years have you been doing it?

·         What homes can I view?

·         Do you have references and phone numbers?

·         Google the builder and see what comes up.

·         Does the final cost keep within his budget?

·         Ask the neighbors of where he built if the construction site was always clean or was there debris all over the street?

·         Were the sub-contractors respectful to the neighborhood?

·         Most importantly, does the builder listen to you?

During the building process, please keep your real estate agent by your side.  They should be your extra support as there are many decisions to be made during this process. 

I understand that price has to play a role, but do not let that be the only decision factor.  A new home is a place where you will spend many years to come and it is most important that you are happy.
