Jazz It Up

This evening I had the opportunity to sit in on a level 6 jazz class. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The girls were all smiles and you could tell they were just having a blast. Ervin Vallecillo, a Nicaraguan native and a Mystic ballet Company member, was teaching the class. He is such a great teacher and so fun to watch. You can tell there’s a camaraderie present among the girls. They do so well together.

Towards the end of the class, Mr. Vallecillo gave the girls an opportunity to take any steps learned in today’s class, and with a partner come up with their own short routine. He gave them 10 minutes, and it was so neat watching them just buzz and put on their game faces to come up with the absolute best

I got to see the routines & I have to say I was impressed. It must be rewarding as a teacher, to get to see first hand that your students are listening and learning and actively picking up what you are teaching. Looking at some of the routines, you could see the girls being intentional about the corrections that were made to technique during class. Maybe not visible to most, but as a dancer, your eye knows what to look for even if not on purpose. They did such a great job. Thanks girl for the smile I had when i left.
