The practice of kirtan involves a participatory chanting of songs or Sanskrit mantra' with the accompaniment of instruments like the harmonium, flute, tablas, or other percussion. It is a form of Bhakti, or devotional yoga. Similar to the Blues and Gospel music, kirtan is founded on a 'call-and-response' format between a leader (kirtankar) and a group, or sangha. While practicing kirtan, any playful dance or musical improvisation is encouraged! Come join us and practice this form of devotional yoga. Express yourself, and celebrate the body, the breath and the spirit!

Mark Geyer is a lifelong musician and yogi, with a passion for communication, language, and the power of sound. After studying Media Production and Spanish at Syracuse University, Mark studied Vispassana Meditation annually, in silence, through the graciousness of Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA. In 2013, he returned to his native Berkshire Hills to study at Kripalu and obtain his Yoga Teacher Certification. Mark's daily study and practice of meditation, yoga and devotional chant shape and inform his passion for guidance and harmony in the world.
