Labrador Retriever Most Popular Dog Breed in Stonington
The Labrador retriever tops the lists of dog breeds registered in Stonington but there are more mixed breeds than all the purebreds.
Stonington residents, just like the rest of the country, favor the Labrador retriever. The American Kennel Club released its annual list of the most popular breeds in America in January and for the 22nd year in a .
According to Stonington Town Clerk Cindy Ladwig the Labrador retriever is also Number 1 in Stonington.
In 2012, 295 Labrador retrievers were registered in the Town of Stonington. Here is the Top Five List for Stonington:Â

- Golden retrievers: 134
- German Shepherds: 51
- Begales: 49
- Jack Russell Terriers: 48.
Ladwig said that mixed breeds, however outnumber all of the purebreds in Stonington.
