Lawmakers Consider Banning Fake Guns At Schools

Stonington's December incident sparks talks on proposed new legislation

 

A press conference was held on Thursday to discuss a bill that would ban fake guns at schools, CT News Junkie reported.

According to the article, the proposed bill would outlaw fake guns on school property and would also ban alterations to fake guns that make them "undistinguishable" from the real thing.

In December, a officer was called to a school in town on reports of a student having a gun. When the officer arrived at the scene, he saw one student pointing a gun at another student's head.

Stonington Police Chief Darren Stewart said, in the article, “The officer was placed in an awful, awful position at that time about the use of deadly physical force."

In addition to banning fake guns on school grounds, paintball guns, pellet guns and BB guns also would be included.
