To stop and think for a moment, one can only imagine what our world would be like without the privilege of sight. For young Sofia, blindness is her reality. I got to meet this precious young lady among her peers, first at The School and then at the Mystic Stage in Mystic Village.
Waiting for their ride in the lobby, all the girls were busy exchanging Miss Mary Mac’s and other girly rhymes. To be honest, if I had never seen Sofia’s Photo before today, I would not be able to tell you which one she was! I was absolutely blown away by this strong yet subtle brunette. Her presence in the room was bold, yet she was very calm and almost reassuring. A budding pre-teen none the less
Once at the cinema, all the girls lined up their things neatly in the front and quietly assembled on stage. Immediately Mr. Alejandro Ulloa Zepeda, the girls instructor, began the 8 counts and I watched the girls run through their number. A lot of today was blocking the piece on stage and as I watched Sofia she followed every instruction to the letter. Simply amazing.

The most amazing thing about meeting Sofia and watching her dance, is the desire she has to not be treated any differently then the other dancers. It is obvious that Mr. Zepeda does well to honor that and treats all the girls equally.
At first glance I thought maybe Sofia was quiet or maybe shy even…. But then I realized, she’s not shy, she’s listening. If you watch her, she is not only participating in what’s going on around her, but she’s also listening. Not to my surprise, during the entire practice, Sofia was keeping rhythm with the other girls and to repeat myself, if I didn’t know which one she was, I couldn’t point her out. I thoroughly was inspired by Sofia’s spirit and love for dance. Quite the invaluable little girl. Thank you Sofia for gracing the stage of our hearts!
