Love is in the Air at the DPNC Mystic Nature Center

The Denison Pequotsepos/Coogan Farm Nature and Heritage Center is celebrating Valentine’s the natural way. With unique program choices for singles, couples, children and adults, there is something for everyone to love. The festivities kick off on Friday February 10th with “Singles, Snakes and Spirits” when participants mingle with other singles, as well as the Center’s resident snakes, as they sip on tasty beverages from Revival Brewing Company. Saturday February 11th is the “Full Snow Moon Valentine Hike,” when participants will hike the Center’s historical Coogan Farm property under the moonlight and retreat to the Avery Barn for delectables provided by Cheeseboro Whey and Fiddleheads Food Co-op.

If you have children in tow, then Sunday February 12th “ Creation Station: Nature Valentines” is for you. Nature is the inspiration for crafts that day, and Center staff will be on hand to help families create works of art out of recycled and natural elements. And if art and quality time in a natural setting isn’t enough of a draw for you, then hot chocolate might sweeten the deal! Another family-friendly program on offer is for those who want to learn more about owls: February 17th’s “Hoot Amoré program. Attendees will walk the Pequotsepos property in search of signs and sounds of the feathered creatures, and then will meet and greet the Center’s resident owl ambassadors.

Valentine's Full Snow Moon Hike at Coogan Farm

Creation Station: Nature Valentines

Join our staff of educators and artists for a craft-filled afternoon making valentines, and valentine's decorations out of natural and recycled materials! Hoot Amoré

Great horned owls start courtship in December, and February is the start of Barred owl mating season. Join us to learn more about these fascinating feathered creatures of the night and their adaptations. Discover which owls live in Connecticut and how to identify them by sight and sound! We’ll go on a short walk to look and listen for signs of owl activity. Families will get the chance to meet some of our owl ambassadors and enjoy hot chocolate next to a warm fire!
