Man Charged In 2020 North Stonington Overdose Death: Police
Investigators claim that the accused, Edward R. Broyles, 32, gave the victim, Tyrell Hightower, 32, the drugs that caused the overdose.

STONINGTON, CT — More than three years after a man was found dead of an overdose at the Stonington Institute in North Stonington, a man has been arrested and taken into custody after being accused of providing the victim with the narcotics that caused the overdose, Connecticut State Police said in a Friday news release.
Investigators said the accused, Edward R. Broyles, 32, gave the victim, Tyrell Hightower, 32, the drugs when they were both at the institute—which provides inpatient detoxification services—in February 2020.
After obtaining information from witness interviews, video surveillance footage, and other evidence, detectives were granted a warrant for Broyles' arrest, authorities said. Police found Broyles in Stuart, Florida on March 9, 2023, taking him into custody on an extraditable arrest warrant.

Broyles was held on a $200,000 cash/surety bond and was scheduled for arraignment on March 31 at the New London Superior Court.
