Massive Development Plans Call For Grocery Store, Retail, Residential In Stonington

The 68-acre mixed-use property is in "a rapidly expanding, high-traffic corridor," according to a real estate firm.

STONINGTON, CT — Plans for a new shopping center with a grocery store and several large retail spaces are in the works in Stonington, as reported by The Connecticut Scoop.

The 68-acre mixed use project at the corner of Route 2 and I-95 would also include multi-family housing units and townhomes, according to Breslin Realty.

The shopping center's anchor space is 30,000 square feet with a proposed grocery store. There are several retail spaces available adjacent to the grocery store, with the largest measuring 17,976 square feet. The development also includes five outparcels, which could be used for restaurants.

Plans also show 143 townhouses, 12 villa apartments and 82 garden apartments at an adjacent property. A third property would be a three-story mixed-used village with 162 residential units and 35,000 square feet of retail space.

Breslin Realty, which is leasing the property, describes the area as "the center of a rapidly expanding, high-traffic corridor," touting its proximity to Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, Mystic Seaport, beaches and boating and golf destinations.

The spot is also across the street from the newly built 480,000-square-foot General Dynamics Electric Boat warehouse.

The developer will hold an information session for local residents and neighbors June 18 at 6 p.m. at the Pawcatuck VFW Post 1265, according to The Connecticut Scoop.
