More Than 780 Dogs Licensed So Far In Stonington

The Stonington Town Clerk’s Office is busy processing dog registrations.

“We’re doing 50 to 100 a day,” said Town Clerk Cynthia Ladwig.

June is dog-licensing month in Connecticut and as of 10 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012, the clerk’s office had processed 782 dog licenses. Last year there were 2,178 registered dogs in town. Ladwig said dog licensing is on pace with last year’s numbers. If you no longer have a dog the town clerk’s office would appreciate it if you give them a call so they can update their files.

Connecticut state law requires dog owners to register all dogs six months old and older at their town clerk’s office. Dog license renewals are due June 30.

Registrations fees in Stonington are $19 for female and male dogs or $8 for neutered males and spayed females. There is $1 charged for each month a dog over 6 months of age is not licensed. In order to register or renew a license you need a current rabies certificate and a spay or neuter certificate if your dog is spayed or neutered. 

Visit the ’s office to register your dog or visit the Town of Stonington website and follow the instructions to register by mail.

The  requires registered dog owners be at least 18-years-old, and owners of new dogs or those who have just moved into town must register their dog even if it is not June.
