Murphy Will Not Seek Second Term as North Stonington First Selectman

North Stonington First Selectman Shawn Murphy announced this week he will not be seeking re-election in November.

NORTH STONINGTON, CT - North Stonington First Selectman Shawn Murphy announced this week he will not be seeking re-election in November, the New London Day reported. He has instead chosen to spend more time with his family and travel.

Murphy said it was a tough decision but was ultimately best for him and his family, according to the New London Day. Murphy succeeded Nicholas Mullane II in 2015, having served one term as first selectman. (To sign up for Stonington/Mystic breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Town officials said no candidates for the position have come forward yet, the New London Day reported. Members of the Republican Town Committee will reach out to potential candidates in the coming months ahead of the caucus in July.
