Mystic Bridge Tender Retires After 33 Years Of Service

STONINGTON, CT — Roderick Coleman, who began his career as a Bridge Tender of the Mystic River Bascule Bridge in 1989, retired Tuesday, June 30, according to a statement from the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. The chamber celebrated his career at an event last week.

Stonington police posted the following on Facebook on Coleman's career:

"The men and women of the Stonington Police Department send a heartfelt 'Thank You' to Rod Coleman, and best wishes on his retirement. For many years, SPD depended on Rod to manage the busy downtown traffic and assist us with his eyes from his perch on the drawbridge. Congratulations on your 33 years with CT DOT, we will miss you!"
