Mystic Nursing Home Fined For Care Violations

A Mystic nursing home was one of three Connecticut care facilities recently fined following lapses in care.

MYSTIC, CT - A Mystic nursing home was one of three care facilities recently fined following lapses in care, as reported by the Connecticut Health I-Team. Handed out by the state Department of Public Health, the three facilities were cited for violations that either injured residents or put their safety at risk.

Avalon Health Care Center at StoneRidge in Mystic was fined $1,530 following two separate injuries to a resident during wheelchair transfers, C-HIT reported. In the first incident, a resident known for skin breakdown received a cut after hitting their leg on a chair's leg rest while being transferred in a bathroom.

In the second incident, the resident needed stitches for a 7-centimeter long-cut after hitting their leg on the leg rest of a wheelchair, according to C-HIT. A nurse's aid was subsequently disciplined for disobeying facility policy by folding up the leg rests instead of removing them.
