Mystic Restaurant Among America's Top 50, NYT Ranking Says
Of the 50 restaurants highlighted by the Times, 32 are newly opened, and one from Mystic made the cut.
MYSTIC, CT — The New York Times recently announced its 50 favorite restaurants in America for 2024, with one from Connecticut landing on the list.
“Over the last 12 months, reporters and editors traveled to nearly every state scouting restaurants for our annual list,” according to the newspaper. “As always, there were no-brainers and tough choices — the United States has a vast, diverse spread of great restaurants these days — but these are our 50 favorites for 2024.”
In Connecticut, The Shipwright's Daughter, a Mystic establishment, made the list.

The restaurant, which has been heralded for its commitment to serving sustainable seafood, earned high marks from The Times for its "velvety roasted oysters and a delicate batter-fried fillet of whiting." See the full list here.
The restaurant's executive chef, David Standridge, has earned numerous accolades over the course of his career, including winning a James Beard Foundation Award this year. He was nominated for the award in 2023 and has also earned accolades from the Connecticut Restaurant Association.

In addition to serving as chef, Standridge is a proponent of the restaurant's approach to promoting environmental protection. "A champion of sustainable fishing practices, (Standridge) incorporates local kelp, invasive species, and bycatch fish into his modern New England cuisine, minimizing waste while celebrating the region's seafood diversity," according to his bio.
The restaurant was also recognized earlier this year for its extensive wine selection by Wine Spectator. Connecticut Magazine gave The Shipwright's Daughter the nod as one of the state's best restaurants in several categories, including romantic, New American, seafood, raw bar, desserts, and outdoor dining.
