Aymeric Dupré la Tour of Mystic will inaugurate the recently restored 1857 A.H. Gale piano.
NORTH STONINGTON –Romantic Sounds Revived is the first of three concerts planned at the North Stonington Historical Society’s Stephen Main House at 1 Wyassup Road . On January 31, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m., Aymeric Dupré la Tour of Mystic will inaugurate the recently restored 1857 A.H. Gale piano. Square grand pianos were extremely popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, gracing homes worldwide. This piano not only boasts a beautifully revived sound, but also has a lovely rosewood case, intricate mother-of-pearl designs over the keyboard and massive, finely carved legs in the Rococo Victorian style. Its interior has a gilded iron frame ornate with floral motifs and deerskin-wrappedhammers. Aymeric Dupré la Tour, the Society’s artistic director, brings a wealth of experience to the upcoming performances. A native of Lyon, France, he holds an artist’s diploma in organ and a master’s in historical performance from Oberlin, where his studies included the pianoforte, the earliest form of the piano. He also holds a doctorate in musical arts from Juilliard.
The parlor concert program will present two impromptus by Franz Schubert, Études by Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt and his only American student William Mason, Chopin’s Impromptu No. 2, the Berceuse by legendary American virtuoso Jean-Moreau Gottschalk, and a masterpiece of inner-sentiment expression: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata No. 28.
