Obituary: Alfred E. Brooks Sr., 90, Of Mystic
Alfred loved fishing and the New England Patriots, and he lived in Mystic for most of his life.

Alfred E. Brooks Sr., 90, of Mystic, husband of Dorothy (Harris) Brooks died Friday, February 2, 2018 at Groton Regency where he had been a recent resident. Born in Greenport, Long Island NY he was the son of the late Jesse and Mary Theresa (McDonald) Brooks and lived in Mystic for most of his life.
Alfred’s career spanned over 46 years as a Heating and Air Conditioning Technician for Densmore and Lehigh Oil Companies up until his retirement. Prior to working in the oil industry, he worked for a short time at Electric Boat and was a commercial fisherman.

After his retirement he worked part time as a driver for Mystic Transportation and Park Monitor at the Mystic River Park. Al joined the Mystic Fire Dept. in 1950 and rose to the rank of Fire Chief from 1971-1977. Al was a Life Member of the Mystic Hook and Ladder Company, an Honorary Member of the Greenport Long Island NY Fire Dept and a Life Member of the New London County Fire Chief’s Association.
He was a Charter Member of the Quiambaug Fire Dept, a Life Member of the New England States Veteran Firemen’s League as well as a member of the Stonington Borough Portuguese Holy Ghost Society.

He loved fishing and the New England Patriots.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his three children, Alfred Brooks Jr., Richard Brooks and Marsha Czapek; his two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Coombe and Philiamina “Philly” Lindy; three granddaughters, Lisa Brooks and Kelly and Krystal Czapek; and a great-granddaughter, Grace Balestracci. Al was predeceased by a brother, Jessie Franklin Brooks Jr and a sister, Theresa Scroggins.
A calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, followed by an 11 a.m. service at the Mystic Funeral Home on Route 1 in Mystic. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Mystic Fire Department at 34 Broadway Ave. Mystic, CT 06355.
