Obituary: Edward M. Joynes, 75, of Mystic

Ed was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Navy from 1959 until his retirement in 1980.

Edward M. Joynes, 75, of Mystic passed away on Saturday October 29, 2016 at his home.

Ed was born on May 26, 1941 in Providence, RI the son of the late Walter and Lucy Ann Millard Joynes. He had been married to the late Gladys Fay Swindle on Dec. 23, 1979 in Groton; she passed away on June 13, 2005.

Ed was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Navy from 1959 until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Joynes received his Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts; and then worked as a Chef for 5 years at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, and for 11 years at Foxwoods.

Ed is survived by three daughters, Nancy, Deborah and Susan, one son Edward, two step-daughters, Sunni and Jonnie, grandchildren, Thomas, Rebecca, Shelby, Jacob, Jordan and Kyle as well as several great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1 pm Thursday Nov. 3 at the Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. His burial with military honors will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton. A visiting hours will be held at the funeral home from 12 pm to 1 pm prior to his service.
