Obituary: George W. Bromley, 96, Of Pawcatuck

George was a machinist employed with the former Cottrell Printing in Pawcatuck for many years.

George W. Bromley, 96, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Fairview in Groton where he had been a recent resident.

Affectionately known as “Uncle Buddy,” he was born in Westerly, R.I. He was the son of the late William and Catherine (Lowry) Bromley and was a longtime resident of Pawcatuck.

George was a machinist employed with the former Cottrell Printing in Pawcatuck for many years up until his retirement in 1984.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran during WWII. A radio operator during the war in HI and Japan, he served as a member of the 98th Infantry Division unit. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

George was a lover of cats, and in his words: “A house with cats is a happy house!”

He is survived by nieces, Frances Slater of Pawcatuck, and Janice Slater Wilson (Edward) of Griswold and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A service for George will be held Saturday, December 29 at 10 a.m. at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1. His burial will follow the service with military honors at the 1st Hopkinton Cemetery in R.I. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the CT Humane Society (www.cthumane.org).
