Obituary: Gloria L. Smith, 80, Of Mystic

Gloria L. (Rocha) Smith, 80, lifelong resident of Mystic, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 after a brief unexpected illness. Born in New London, CT she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Grace (Cavarly) Rocha.
She was a cafeteria aide for many years for the former Broadway School and Deans Mill Elementary School. Gloria enjoyed reading, listening to country music and was excellent in baking, frosting and tastefully decorating cakes.

She is survived by her two children, Edward A. Smith and his wife, Heidi, of Saratoga Springs, NY and Laurie Smith of Mystic; four grandchildren, Heather Hanson, Maria Wilson, Kaitlin and Gregory Smith; a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Hanson and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward R. Smith; two sisters, Rose and Dolores Strauss and two brothers, Antonio Rocha and Stanley “Socka” Wheaton.
A graveside service will be planned for early spring at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
