Obituary: James P. Steele, 77, of Stonington

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1943 Mystic.

James “Jim” P. Steele, 77, of Stonington, husband of twenty years to Victoria (Sforza) Steele died Friday, October 28, 2016.

Born in New London, he was the son of the late Philip and Margaret (Mahoney) Steele and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Jim was a supervisor with Electric Boat retiring in 1996. Following his retirement, he worked part-time with the Mystic Aquarium for the last 14 years.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1943 Mystic.

In addition to his wife he leaves his four children, Patrick Steele of Southboro, MA., Christopher Steele of Niantic, Daniel Steele of Waterford, Gretchen Berg of Christmas, FL; step-son, Michael Sforza of Ledyard; sister, Phyllis Sutton of Mystic; brother, Edward Steele and his wife, Lynn, of Pawcatuck; three grandchildren, Jesse and Gina Steele and Aidan Sforza and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean and a daughter, Karen Stillman.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, November 4th at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Church 32 East Main St. Mystic. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
