Obituary: Roberta Wetherbee Blanchette, 92, Of Mystic

Roberta loved bowling, knitting, cooking and taking care of her family and extended family.

Roberta Wetherbee Blanchette, age 92, of Mystic passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday afternoon, August 8, 2018 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.

She was born in Portsmouth, NH on July 7, 1926 the only child of Dexter I. and Wilhelmina Sylvain Wetherbee. She was married to William L. Blanchette on April 19, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church in Groton. William passed away July 26, 1986.

Roberta graduated from Robert E. Fitch Sr High School in the class of 1943. She then worked for the former Winthrop Trust Co in New London, was a secretary at former New London Gas Service Co which was owned by her husband and his family.

She then was the head teller at the former Hartford National Bank, which is now Bank of America, from 1965 until retiring in 1992.

Roberta loved to go to Eastern Point Beach with her children and the neighbor children, bowling, knitting, cooking and taking care of her family and extended family. She was a fan of the UCONN women’s basketball team.

Roberta is survived by her son, William D. Blanchette of Lacona, NY, two daughters, Christine Fine and Elaine Hodgson both of Mystic, five grandchildren, Michael J. Hodgson, Darrell A. and Crystal Fine and Arabella and Mandolyne Blanchette as well as five great grandchildren, Haley M. Fine, Sydney A., Lawrence D. H. and Graham Van Wagner and Robert J. Piava.

Besides her husband she was predeceased by her son, Leonard R. Blanchette and her son in law William L. Hodgson, Jr.

The family would like to thank the Doctor’s and Nurses at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and at DaVita of New London for the care given to Roberta.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 o’clock at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Private interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. A visiting hour will be held on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service.

Instaed of flowers, donations in her memory may be directed to the Autisim Program of the Groton School System (1300 Flanders Road, Groton, CT 06340) or Smilow Cancer Center (230 Parkway South, Waterford, CT 06385).
