Obituary: Sally Ellingwood Charland, 87, Of Stonington

She lived with her husband in Stonington for the past 47 years, where they were well known and loved by the community.

STONINGTON, CT — Sally Ellingwood Charland, 87, went peacefully into the hands of our Lord on Jan. 11, 2018. Her devoted husband, Richard H. Charland, went before her 10 years ago.

She was predeceased by her sister Carol Ellingwood Shea and her husband William, her brother George H. Ellingwood Jr., his wife Beverly and their son George H. Ellingwood III. Sally leaves her loving children, their spouses and grandchildren. These include her son Richard H. Charland, Jr., his wife Mary and her son Jacob Harris and his daughter Jace Ryleigh; her daughter Danielle E. Charland-Gruhzit, husband Charles and Danielle's son Josiah Zagorac, Charles' daughter Sarah Elizabeth and husband Nicholas Poole and their daughter Erin Elizabeth; and Sally's youngest son Gene Paul Charland.

Included in the family are several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Sally graduated from Weaver High in Hartford, CT and Hartt College of Music with a bachelor's degree in piano teaching in 1955. That year she married Richard and they both taught music for a living. They lived in Stonington the past 47 years and were well known and loved by the community.

Sally served the Episcopal Diocese as Sunday School Consultant in leadership and training, as Church School Director at St. Mark's Parish, Mystic, and as church organist in several parishes throughout New London County.

Her love for our Lord and people shined no matter what she was doing and she enjoyed keeping busy using her gifts to make this world a better place.

Her family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 17, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will be conducted in Stonington Cemetery, Route 1, Stonington.
