Pawcatuck Holiday Lights Looking A Little Blue
New Lights Will Last Longer While Saving Energy
If the holiday lights in downtown Pawcatuck are looking a little more blue to you this year, don’t worry you’re not going crazy.
The Town of Stonington is trying out light-emitting diode (LED) lights in the holiday decorations and the new lights have a blue tint.
“It’s a different tint, but they're more durable, they sustain better and save energy,” First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr., said.

That different tint, however, hasn’t escaped the notice of residents whom Haberek said have been calling his office to ask about them.
Haberek said the town decided to try out the new lights so that they would better match the lights in downtown Westerly, and also as a cost saving measure. In past years, Haberek said vandals have plucked the light bulbs from the light posts and the town has spent a lot of man-hours replacing the lights.

The LED lights can be re-used each year and come with their own garland. Next year the town will look at matching the tints of the new lights to those on the wreaths, Haberek said.
