Pawcatuck Softball Champs Looking for Donations

All Stars Senior League Heads To Eastern Regional Tournament

They’ve been state champs for a less than a day, barely time enough to celebrate the win, but with ear-to-ear grins—and homemade signs— Pawcatuck All Stars Senior League Softball players stood in front of local supermarkets seeking donations from the community to help cover the costs of travel to the Eastern Regional tournament.

“We super excited,” said Summer Cipriani, pitcher and first base player.

Pawcatuck took their second state title Monday night after the team won handily over Putnam-Woodstock.

The 2011 Eastern Regional Tournament begins Friday at Worcester State University and runs through Aug. 4.

In 2007, the Pawcatuck team won not just the state championship, but took the Eastern Regional as well. The team traveled to the World Series in Delaware that year.

And that’s their plan now.

Cipriani and pitcher/first base player Roslin Wilhelm, 15,—two of the team’s “top guns”—greeted shoppers heading into in Mystic.

“Yeah, we won. Now, we wanna go to Delaware,” Cipriani told a man who asked if they had change for a large bill.

The team needs around $3,000, a player's mom said.

Should they make it, the Senior League Softball World Series is slated for August 7 through 13 in Lower Sussex, Delaware.
