Police: 10 Chihuahuas Inside Walmart Bags Were Dumped In 4 Towns
In September, 10 neglected, small Chihuahua-mix puppies and adult dogs, shoved inside Walmart bags, were dumped on driveways in four towns.
STONINGTON, CT — Ten small dogs, mostly Chihuahua-mix adult and puppies, were put into blue Walmart bags and then dumped in driveways across Stonington, Preston, Groton and Norwich in early September. Police are looking for whoever abandoned the dogs.
According to Stonington Police police officer Kristy Murray, the car used to ditch the dogs may be a black Acura.
Murray told Patch that Stonington Police animal control was called to a few local homes in early September for reports of dogs abandoned in driveways. Murray said that the small canines were not all in the best condition and appeared to have been neglected. They were inside blue Walmart reusable bags. The dogs were taken to the animal shelter.

But then, Murray said, because they network with each other, animal control officers in other towns were reporting that they too had small dogs, Chihuahua-mix pups and adults, dumped in the exact same way. Comparing notes, animal officers in Preston, Norwich and Groton were all reporting the same crime.
"They talk to one another and the 'Hey, that looks like the dogs we had,' just kind of unraveled this whole thing," Murray said. A total of 10 dogs were found in the four different towns.

Stonington Police said they had the wherewithal and manpower to take on the case, Murray said and she, an animal lover and dog owner, was assigned to handle it.
"I was appalled. I'm a dog lover and that somebody had the mental state to do something like this to these animals, I just can't imagine ...and how scared they must have been. I want to give these animals a voice, to get justice for these dogs."
Murray is hoping people will come forward with any information.
"I hope someone will recognize them and say something," Murray said.
The dogs that were brought to Stonington Animal Control have been adopted. Murray said she believes the other dogs found abandoned in Preston, Groton and Norwich were also adopted.
