Police Find Loaded Handgun During DUI Stop In Stonington: Report
Stonington police said a man is facing charges after he was found to have a loaded handgun during a suspected DUI stop.

STONINGTON, CT - Police said a Stonington man is facing charges after he was he was stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence and found with a loaded handgun, the Westerly Sun reported. The incident occurred Saturday after an officer saw his vehicle swerving, according to police.
Police said Kyle Matthew Bergel, 22, of Stonington showed signs of intoxication when stopped by the officer, according to the Westerly Sun. He was subsequently found to be carrying a loaded pistol in his waistband. The suspect had proper permits for the weapon, however carrying a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is categorized as a misdemeanor, the Westerly Sun reported. Bergel was arrested after being given a field sobriety test.
