Police Find Vehicle, ID Suspect In Stonington Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash

STONINGTON, CT — Police have found the vehicle and identified a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident earlier this week.

A cyclist was struck and killed Monday night. Police responded at 10:44 p.m. to the accident in the area of 210 S. Broad St. in Pawcatuck.

Officers arrived and found that Gary Piver, 69, of Stonington, had been hit by a vehicle traveling west on South Broad Street. The suspect vehicle, a dark gray Toyota SUV, had left the scene.

Piver was transported to Westerly Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect vehicle was found at a home in Stonington. Police identified the vehicle and suspect by utilizing town cameras, private cameras, and license plate reader cameras.

The accident investigation is ongoing at this time.
