Police: Mystic Middle School Employee Was Drunk On Field Trip

Stacy Shaw, 51, a former Mystic Middle School paraprofessional, pleaded not guilty to a felony charge for being intoxicated on a field trip.

MYSTIC, CT—Stacy Lee Shaw pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of causing a risk of injury to minors, court records show. In May, the then-Mystic Middle School employee was alleged by police to be intoxicated while chaperoning middle school students on a field trip to Manchester, Connecticut, court records show and police in Manchester confirmed to Patch.

Shaw, 51, was arrested May 17 at Manchester High School for being "heavily intoxicated," according to news and police reports. Students from a number of Connecticut schools were at Manchester high for a music festival.

According to a report at the time, Shaw was found drinking by school principal Tim Smith. Police said she admitted to drinking wine in the early morning. Police said she had miniature plastic bottles commonly called 'nips,' of vodka in her purse and was drinking on the bus to the high school from Mystic and then found drinking inside the school, according to police.

Shaw resigned her post as a paraprofessional in June, schools records show.

Court documents show Shaw was released on $10,000 bond and is due back in court in Aug. 16.
