Popular Ice Cream Store Opens At Historic Old Mystic Spot

MYSTIC, CT — Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream held a soft opening of its second location this past weekend.

"Soft opening was a success!" the shop posted on Facebook. "We’re so happy we got to see so many smiling faces today! Thank you so much for the love and support!"

A store representative said in an email that "the community response was incredible."

The shop, called Mystic Drawbridge General Store, is located at the former Old Mystic General Store at 47 Main St. The building has been part of Old Mystic since 1790.

"Mystic Drawbridge General Store is the newest chapter of the second-generation family owned, and operated business behind the home-made ice cream you’ve come to know and love in downtown Mystic," the store's website reads.

Renovations for the ice cream shop began in the spring.

The store is currently open Thursday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The shop also operates a downtown location, Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream, at 2 to 4 W. Main St. in Mystic. The business was started back in 1991 by Cheryl Robdau and Rod Desmarais. Today, their son, Colin Desmarais, is running the family business.

Demand for the homemade ice cream "has grown so much over the years that our downtown location simply ran out of room to keep up," the store's representative said in an email.

Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream also features frappes, shakes, coffee, espresso and more. The new spot has fewer toppings and specialty creations than the original downtown location.

The new location does serve homemade pastries and baked goods made by Carla Gennuso.

"She’s in early every single morning crafting the most incredible scratch-made baked goods, and having her on the team has been game-changing for us," the store representative said.

They're also stocking curated local goods from farms and vendors including local honey, soy sauce, flowers, salsa and more.
