Stonington’s planning and zoning committee will soon begin interviewing candidates to serve on the updating committee. But first they have to decide what to ask the candidates.

The pzc will spend the first part of tonight’s meeting discussing both the questions they want to ask applicants and the process for the work of the POCD.

Every decade, as defined by state law, the town reviews and updates its POCD. The committee has a say on how the town will grow, what it will look like and where it is going.

Those appointed to the committee will use the 2004 plan as basis. That plan includes chapters and sections on community issues, resource protection, villages’ protection and enhancements, and future development and desired growth and land use and took 18 months to complete.

According to PZC Chairman Rob Marseglia’s the pzc not only selects the members, but also “sets parameters and guidelines for its work and process.”

The pzc will have to decide how many people will serve on the committee as well as how many members of the planning and zoning commission will be part of the updating committing.

Pawcatuck Affordable Housing Proposal

The public hearing scheduled for 7:30 p.m. will consider a special use permit and groundwater protection permit that would allow the construction of two multi-unit residential structures at 100 and 102 S Broad St., in Pawcatuck. The proposal is for a 43-unit housing complex that will include a community building with caretaker unit. The plan calls for 14 of the units to be designated as affordable housing.

Athletic Field Sponsorship

The Stonington Board of Education will submit a site plan application that would allow for on the new softball scoreboard at the high school.

Regulation Amendment To Allow Temporary Drive-In Events

The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission is considering a zoning regulation amendment that would allow to come to the area.

The regulation would allow temporary drive-ins on properties of a certain size and minimum number of parking spaces. If the pzc approves the change the Mystic Aquarium could submit an application to allow them to show drive-in movies in July and August this summer.
