Rescued Manatee Transported to Florida from Mystic Aquarium After Rehabilitation

A manatee rescued in September that has been in rehabilitation at the Mystic Aquarium has begun transportation to Florida.

MYSTIC, CT – A pregnant manatee rescued last month that has been rehabilitating at the Mystic Aquarium began transport to Florida early Tuesday morning, The Day reported.

The manatee will be transported by plane from Groton-New London Airport to the aquarium and amusement park Sea World in Orlando, Fla., The Day reported. The journey is expected to take seven hours.

An ultrasound taken before the creature’s departure showed the mother and developing calf to be in good health, according to The Day. The manatee was rescued on Sept. 22 in Falmouth, Mass., and was the first the Mystic Aquarium had ever taken care of.
