Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for North Stonington-Area

Destructive hail and damaging winds are possible, according to the National Weather Service.


A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for a portion of New London County. North Stonington is one of the towns listed in the National Weather Service’s weather statement.

“Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds... Destructive hail... Deadly lightning and very heavy rain” are headed this way, the NWS said. “For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business.”

According to Accuweather, the storm may produce damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. Locations impacted include:

  • North Stonington
  • Norwich
  • Griswold
  • Preston
  • Lisbon
  • Sprague
  • Bozrah
  • Voluntown
  • Jewett City
  • Franklin

The NWS cautioned drivers to be mindful of heavy rains flooding roads and reminded them not to drive into areas where water is covering the road.

“If you are in the path of this storm, prepare immediately for damaging winds,” the NWS said. “People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building and away from windows. In addition to damaging winds, continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately.”
