Shays Wins In Stonington But Loses The State
Stonington Democrats overwhelmingly voted for Murphy while Republicans voted for Formica and Shays.

Even though the Associated Press didn’t wait for Stonington results to come in before calling the Senate Republican Primary for Linda McMahon, there was a bit of a surprise in Stonington. While Stonington Republicans and Democrats voted with majority of state Republicans and Democrats in selecting Paul Formica as the Second District Congressional Republican Candidate and Christopher Murphy as the Democrat Senate Candidate when it came to the Republican Senate Primary they had a different take.
Senate Republican Candidate Christopher Shays won in Stonington, but lost overall in the Republican Senate Primary. Stonington Republicans cast 364 votes for Shays and 345 for McMahon.

In the Senate Democrat Primary Stonington Democrats cast 531 votes for Murphy and 194 Susan Bysiewicz. The AP called the primary for Murphy.
In the Second District Congressional Republican Primary Stonington Republicans cast 409 votes for Formica and 237 for Daria Novak. The AP called the primary for Formica.

Twenty-five percent of Stonington Republicans voted in the primary and 18 percent of Stonington Democrats voted. .
