Smoke on the Water: Dog Watch BBQ Soon to Open in Stonington

The soon-to-open barbecue joint will feature a number of exciting options and features.

For anyone living in or passing through Stonington with a craving for barbecue, mark your calendars for June 20. That is the day Dog Watch BBQ & More will be opening at 20 Old Stonington Road.

If that name sounds familiar, it is because this new barbecue joint comes from the owners of the Dog Watch Cafe a few miles away at Dodson Boatyard. The Cafe is already an established award-winning yachting bar, but its newest venture still hopes to catch a lot of the same flames in town (and not just under the food in the smoker).

The restaurant’s Facebook page has kept hungry anticipators up to date on all the work put into meeting the announced June 20 opening date. Saturday saw the planting of tomato plants right outside the back door, while the new sign was revealed three days earlier.

Dog Watch will feature outdoor seating for the warm months, complete with orange umbrellas. While the menu will be wide-ranging, a smoker was purchased from Myron Mixon in Waterford, where presumably a lot of food will be prepared to perfection.

“I can almost smell the BBQ,” a post on the Facebook page reads.
