StoneRidge to Host Volunteer Fair for Area Non-Profits

StoneRidge Senior Living Community will be hosting a volunteer fair for the community on Thursday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. Opportunities for both short-term projects and long-term, regular volunteer hours at a variety of non-profit organizations will be offered.

“Most of our residents grew up (or summered) here in the Mystic/Westerly area. They benefited from the wonderful quality of life that our educational, recreational and cultural institutions provided and now they want to give back,” said StoneRidge Executive Director Kathleen Dess. “We would like to encourage other adults to join them.”

According to the National Philanthropic Trust, approximately 63 million Americans — 25 percent of the adult population — volunteer their time, talents, and energy to making a difference to non-profit organizations around the country. Those donated hours, are the equivalent of a $193 billion donation to the communities in which they live.

Organizations that will be represented at the StoneRidge Volunteer Fair will include Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Mystic/Noank Library, the Stonington Community Center, Avalonia Land Conservancy, Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, Indian Colonial Research Center, The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, and the Child & Family Agency of New London.
