Saint-Saëns was born in Paris in 1835. He began playing the piano at age two and a half, and wrote his first work by age three. By his early twenties, Saint-Saëns had composed two symphonies and had won the admiration and support of Berlioz, Liszt, Gounod and Rossini. While Saint-Saëns’ music wasn’t held in high regard in his homeland, he was heralded as one of France’s greatest living composers by musicians in England and the United States well into the twentieth century. Some of his most famous works include Danse macabre, Samson et Dalila and Africa.

To make a reservation and attend the Saint-Saëns lecture at StoneRidge, please call Michael Langlois at (860) 572-5601.
