Officers began investigating after the baby was brought to the hospital with broken bones.

STONINGTON, CT - A Stonington couple has been charged with injuring their 5-week old daughter, according to media reports.

Police said they charged Katrena Aiello, 24, and Cody Brown, 21, last week and released their arrest warrants on Wednesday, as reported by News 8. The suspects denied hurting the baby in interviews with police, and at one point even tried to blame Aiello’s 5-year-old son.

Officers began investigating after the baby was brought to the hospital earlier this month with broken bones, according to News 8. The child also had bruises on several areas of her body and liver inflammation.

Police were able to gain access to the couple’s text messages, wherein the two discussed being frustrated with the child and being too tired to check on her, The Day reported. The pair told police they had erased texts pertaining to the baby to save data.

Aiello has been charged with second-degree assault, while Brown faces tampering with evidence charges, according to The Day. Both are charged with risk of injury to a minor.
