Stonington Doctor Fined for Alleged Inadequate Care of Cancer Patient

A Stonington doctor was among four doctors disciplined by the state Medical Examining Board.

STONINGTON, CT - A Stonington doctor has been fined for his alleged inadequate care of a cancer patient, The Day reported.

Dr. David Burchenal was among four doctors disciplined by the state Medical Examining Board on Tuesday, according to The Day. He was also fined $8,000 and placed on three years of probation.

The board had previously rejected a $3,000 fine against Burchenal in November, as some members said they wanted a stiffer penalty, The Day reported. The doctor has been charged with failing to follow up on a patient’s abnormally high red blood cell counts in 2011 and 2012.
