Stonington House a Total Loss After Fire, Possibly Caused by Lightning Strike

A lightning strike is the suspected cause of a large fire that displaced a family of three.

STONINGTON, CT – A lightning strike ignited a blaze that destroyed a family of three’s Soundview Drive home Thursday, the Westerly Sun reported.

Firefighters responded to the house close to 10:30 a.m. after owner Donald Albert was able to exit the house safely and place the call, according to the Westerly Sun. He had seen the lightning flash while at home and found heavy smoke and flames in the basement of the house.

The family was assisted by the American Red Cross following the house’s destruction, the Westerly Sun reported. The cause of the fire was attributed to the lightning strike, however an investigation is still underway.
