Stonington Increases Transfer Station Hours

Information via Town of Stonington

STONINGTON, CT — As part of a multi-stage plan for re-opening the community, the Town will be increasing access to the Transfer Station for Stonington residents. In order to increase access, but also continue to adhere to social distancing guidelines, the Transfer Station will double the number of appointments allowed each day and will resume Sunday hours, also by appointment. Please note this will take effect Monday, May 11, 2020.

Due to a record number of residents coming through the Transfer Station and to adhere to social distancing guidelines, the Transfer Station has changed its operations to the following: The Transfer Station can only be accessed by scheduling an appointment 24 hours in advance. Residents can call Monday-Friday only, between 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. to schedule their time slot @ 860-535-5088.

Please do not leave a voicemail message for appointments as they will not be accepted. No same day appointments will be permitted. Please note, someone will be available to schedule your appointment between 9:00-12:00 p.m. during this time and if you reach the voicemail please call back. Please be persistent and patient as there is only one phone line and reaching the voicemail means a staff member is currently on the phone. As a reminder, we do not have the staffing levels to be able to make phone appointments on weekends and there is no WIFI capabilities at the Transfer Station, so managing online appointments is not possible at this time.

Effective Monday, May 11, 2020 the operations schedule will be:
Monday, Tuesday – Open by Appointment Only 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday – Closed
Thursday, Friday – Open by Appointment Only 9:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m.
Saturday – Open by Appointment Only 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sunday – Open by Appointment Only 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
We are taking these steps to ensure the health of our workers and residents. As some municipalities are moving towards fully closing their transfer station, we are striving to keep ours open to continue to serve residents and small businesses.
