Stonington Middle School Consolidation Plan Approved
The Stonington Board of Education has approved a plan to consolidate the town's two middle schools.

STONINGTON, CT — On Thursday, the Stonington Board of Education approved plans to consolidate the town's two middle schools, the New London Day reported. The plan was proposed by Superintendent of Schools Van Riley and school administrators, and has been discussed for a while.
The board voted 6-1 in favor of the plan, which proposes allowing school officials to close down Pawcatuck Middle School, according to the New London Day. Students would then attend Mystic Middle School, which is much larger and would be renamed.
Though Riley had recommended the consolidation take place this year, the board voted to delay it until the fall of 2019, the New London Day reported. It is hoped that the extra time will allow teachers to update their curriculum and schedules, and allow time for physical improvements to be made to Mystic Middle School.
