Stonington Moves Forward With Food Scrap Recycling Program: Report
The Board of Selectmen has approved a measure that would allow a $552,000 grant to be used for a food waste disposal pilot program.

STONINGTON, CT — The Board of Selectmen recently unanimously approved a measure that would allow a $552,000 grant to be used for a food waste disposal pilot program, The New London Day reported. The grant is from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for the Curbside Food Scrap Pilot Program.
Participating households will receive 52 green bags and a 4-gallon food waste bucket.
A town official estimated that the program when combined with the town's recycling programs could reduce household waste by 70 to 80%.
