Stonington Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heat Wave

Cooling centers are available throughout the state for anyone needing a place to get out of the heat.

STONINGTON, CT — The state's Extreme Hot Weather Protocol was put into effect Tuesday and will last until Sunday evening.

Peak temperatures Thursday could hit 100 degrees, with the heat index climbing up to 110.

Cooling centers are available at the following locations in Stonington:

  • Westerly Library: Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Stonington Free Library: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Mystic & Noank Library: Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
