Stonington’s America 250 Committee Seeks Baseball Players For Historic Game
The players will be part of a historic game, played according to 1864 rules, following the Stonington Village Fair.
STONINGTON, CT — Historic Stonington and Stonington’s America 250 Committee are seeking baseball players to participate in a historic game to be held Aug. 1 after the Stonington Village Fair.
In collaboration with the Stonington Community Center and the National Association of Historic Base Ball Clubs, the committee will host a doubleheader played by 1864 rules, according to a statement from organizers.
Those interested in participating can register on the Historic Stonington website, www.historicstonington.org Vintage Baseball Team Sign Up, until March 15.

The Stonington home team will have 15 players, chosen in a lottery draft. All experience levels are welcome to register.
The doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. with a game between the New York Mutuals and the Providence Greys. The winner of the first game will advance to play the Stonington team.

A public poll to name the Stonington team is also available on the Historic Stonington website, www.historicstonington.org.
Chosen players will be taught the 1864 rules ahead of the game on August 1st, and will be coached by Ann-Marie Houle of the Stonington High School girls’ softball team.
