Stonington Schools Modify Post-Holiday Schedule

Stonington schools will go to a distance learning model for two additional days following Thanksgiving break.

STONINGTON, CT — The district has changed its schedule to add two additional virtual learning days following Thanksgiving. Monday, Nov. 30, and Tuesday, Dec. 1, will both be distance learning days. Wednesday, Dec. 2, was already scheduled as a distance learning day.

The Preschool program and District Office Annex program which are typically in-person on Wednesdays, will also participate in distance learning on Dec. 2.

The district wrote on Facebook that the decision was made to be proactive in preventing potential issues with COVID-19 exposure during the Thanksgiving break. There was concern that students and staff members may be exposed through travel or through family gatherings over the holiday.

The district also noted that adequate substitute teacher coverage may not be available on those days.

"If there is an outbreak and the health department gives us direction to close beyond those three days or staffing challenges prevent us from returning to the hybrid model, we will notify families and staff as soon as possible," the district wrote.
