
The red flyer wagon rumbled along the sidewalk heading towards the beach. The two kids were packed with towels, toys and treats; their mom in a crisp sun dress and sandals. The air was moist but not overly hot. A gentle sea breeze blew in from the harbor.
Several teens passed by, skin burnished golden by the sun, noses white with zinc oxide. Their hair was wet and smelled of the sea, their flip flopped feet were crusty with sand.
A father and son romped along the shore, water guns blasting as the evening grew to a close. The last of the kids out on the floating dock swam towards the beach as the fog horns bellowed.

Off in the distance the church bells sounded the hour. Sailboats motored in, canvas dropping. The launch boats collected guests in the harbor and dropped them off at the boatyard.
Families gathered beneath the white tent for ice cream, relaxing in white wicker chairs, playing a quick round of go fish. "What will we do next?" they called to grandparents as they walked towards home. "It's time for tubs, and rest for tomorrow is another day."

As the sun settled in for the night, the sky glowed golden edged with pink and orange. Cicadas hummed. The osprey fished. The children dreamed of a summer's day where memories are made.
