Stonington To Hold Public Discussion On Athletic Fields
Task-Force To Study The Athletic Fields Will Form In January
The Town of Stonington has tentatively set January 10 at 7 p.m., as the date for a public hearing on the town’s athletic fields.
First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr., said the town hopes the public discussion will address residents’ concerns and also give residents the opportunity to share their recommendations for improving the fields.
in the town have been a cause of concern for years. Some of the fields have holes and bare spots from use. The high school field hockey team had to go to Connecticut College to play a tournament due to the poor state of the fields and soccer teams have also had to play elsewhere, Haberek said.

Between now and the public hearing Haberek said the Director of Public Works and Town Engineer and school district will be assessing the field to see what improvements need to be made. Haberek, also, hopes to put together a task force based on the public hearing to address the concerns of the athletic fields.
The town oversees the use of the all-purpose field, the field hockey, soccer and softball fields while the Stonington Board of Education oversees the football and baseball fields. The Board of Education, however, is responsible for all of the fields during the school year.
