Stonington's Lobster Trap Tree Ends Up On The BBC
One of 18 "amazing" Christmas trees the BBC noted from around the world, this "tree" is made of 378 lobster traps, decorated with 360 buoys.

STONINGTON BOROUGH, CT — Traveling the world to find the most "amazing Christmas trees," the BBC chose 18 of them.
The BBC's list includes the famous tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City along with brilliantly lit ones from Beirut, Lebanon, to Vatican City, and from Berlin, Germany to Vladivostok, Russia.
Oh, and Stonington, Connecticut.

First it was exciting to see the Stonington Lobster Trap Tree on Instagram. But when a news story — Amazing Christmas trees from around the world — from across the pond followed, it was "wow."
The 24-foot-high "tree" is made from 378 lobster traps and decorated with 360 buoys painted by artists and students. It is an homage to Christmas and to the Stonington fishing fleet.

It is an effort of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce, with the support of many including numerous volunteers.

The installation at the Stonington Town Dock in Stonington Borough will be up until Jan. 31, 2022.
