2014 Camp COMO and Summer Programs Now Registering
Parents who are searching for a summer day camp to enrich their child’s summer, while providing socialization, physical activity and creative outlets need look no further! Registration for Camp COMO, the Stonington Community Center’s summer day program, is now open. COMO Day camp is a comprehensive summer program that explores the entire COMO campus as well as the surrounding Stonington Borough. Sessions are centered upon weekly themes while incorporating the best parts of traditional summer fun. Multi-activity days include swimming at the beach, trips to the Stonington Free Library, recreational sports, and art in the studio. As a state-licensed care facility, Camp COMO features lower staff to camper ratios and employs highly qualified staff that creates a safe and nurturing environment for youth. Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm for youth entering grades K-7 in the fall. Before and after care are also available, serving as an extension of the Camp program. Staff guide youth through activities and play, transitioning seamlessly with the core day program. For our younger campers, ages three to five, the COMO is introducing Preschool Explorers. These sessions meet in the mornings once a week for six weeks and explore a specific theme of activities. Messy Hands meets Tuesdays and gets children into the art studio to explore their imaginations and improve motor skills as they create masterpieces! Dirty Hands on Thursdays includes sensory play and more as kids learn about dirt, bugs, plants and more in the Children’s Garden. Sing and Play Together joins us on Wednesdays to get parents and their preschoolers singing and having fun together! Instructed by, Bergin O’Malley, Sing & Play Together is an independent music program of interactive music shows. Drop ins are welcome, but please note that spaces are limited. Register today for an entire session and save, while reserving your spot. Summer at the COMO provides a variety of programs for children to explore their interests, try something new and have fun! A mix of new and exciting arts classes, athletics clinics, Summer Adventures and a drama program let you and your child to choose activities that further engage and enrich. The COMO’s popular Minecraft Class will return for a summer session, as well as MythBusters. Youth pottery, screen printing and Kids of the Wild! – a tutorial in basic wilderness survival skills are also registering. Athletics Clinics include Soccer with Mendonca Soccer School, Lacrosse, Summer Tennis, Field Hockey with Connecticut State Champion Head Coach, Jenna Tucchio, and Dance led by National Champion choreographer and the Connecticut Sun’s Solar Power Dance Team Coordinator, Rachel Pirie. COMO Athletics is introducing a brand new Pre-Season Conditioning clinic for ages 14 and over to improve participants’ aerobic and anaerobic endurance, strength and explosive power, speed and agility in time for fall sports. An extensive Drama Program partners the COMO with the Stonington Players as well as Storytellers’ Theatre – instructed by Linda Allen – for a mix of camps that allow youth to discover the performing arts and to perform on the stage.
